Laerskool Selection Park launches event to get more children on bikes
Young cyclists in Springs will get a taste of XCC/XCO racing when Laerskool Selection Park hosts an introduction race on October 18.
Mark your calendars, Laerskool Selection Park’s cycling team is set to host an exciting XCC/XCO introduction race on October 18 to grow and showcase the sport in the community.
The event is for primary school learners with an interest in cycling to experience the thrill of XCC and XCO racing.
“I would love to get more children involved in the sport, especially because it is an inclusive sport, and I see what it does for children, even the children not riding at the top. It builds confidence and instils independence as well as a sense of persistence in these children.
“We all know our country can do with those principles if we want to get back on top again as a society and a nation,” the team manager, Brian Style, said.
Registrations open at 06:30 and the first race will begin at 08:00. There is limited space for only 200 entries. Only children aged six to 12 years will be allowed to enter, as those are the racing categories for the Gauteng Primary Schools Cycling League, operated under Schools Cycling South Africa.
Style added that one of the team members, Lian Style, is currently ranked fourth in the Gauteng Schools Cycling Series. The final race of the season was on September 20 at the Grootfontein Bike Park, near Pretoria.
“We were hopeful for a podium finish, which should see Lian represent his school and province at the nationals in October.”
