Two injured in Springs hijacking after suspects open fire

A hijacking in Springs turned violent when gunmen shot two residents before fleeing in a stolen vehicle.

Two people were taken to hospital for gunshot wounds after a hijacking went wrong in Springs on the evening of October 2.

A reliable source told the Springs Advertiser that a woman, who lives in a communal residence, was returning home when she noticed a vehicle blocking the gate. She approached the car’s owner, a male resident, and asked him to move his silver VW Golf so she could enter.

According to the source, as they parked, they noticed two men on the street pretending to fight. Suddenly, the men approached and demanded their keys and cellphones.

“The suspects fired several shots, injuring the two people. They also took the woman’s cellphone, got into the Golf, and drove off,” the source said.

The Springs SAPS were called to the scene, and a case of hijacking has been opened. No arrests have been made.
