Pool club recognises players, teams

Several players went to the nationals earlier in the year and also did well in the league’s top 16 play-offs.

The Straight Shots Pool Club in Geduld recently recognised several players and teams for their performances in the East Gauteng Pool Association (EGPA) league seasons and competing at the nationals.

The Team Survivors – Jacques van Rooyen, Eddie Mohale, Hennie Wirths, Samuel Makhanya, Zane Ellis and David Horn – won the first season in the A League, moving up to the Super League for the second season, where they also won.

Individual players who did well in the first season – Zane Ellis, Samuel Makhanya, Eddie Mohale, David Horn and Hennie Wirths – all ended in the top 16 playoffs of the first season.

Of the four, Makhanya, Mohale and Wirths went to the semi-finals. Wirths ended in second place, with Makhanya in first.

In the second season, Makhanya, Mohale, Ellis and Wirths were again in the top 16, with Makhanya making it to the semi-finals. Chris Barnard played in the seniors elite division and walked away as overall winner. He also competed at nationals.

Individual players went to nationals, with Mohale, Ellis, Anne Smith (club manager, ended 64th in her division), Horn (ended 32nd in his division), Wirths and Hans van Niekerk going to represent the EGPA at the nationals.
Club owner Chris Swart is proud of his players and teams for their achievements.
