Group launches first charity day to support struggling families in Daggafontein

Founder Snethemba Mbongwa says the event was about dignity, kindness, and helping vulnerable children and families.

The Ethereal Group in Daggafontein will host its first charity day drive on December 13. It urges the Springs community to donate clothes and shoes.

The founder, Snethemba Mbongwa (25), told the Springs Advertiser that the event is about giving physical items and sharing a day of love and kindness.

She said the day aims to be a support system for those in need, as she noticed many individuals and families struggle to make ends meet.

She hopes to uplift and empower her community with dignity, and has always been passionate about giving back and helping where she can. With the current economy, she felt it was the perfect time to make a tangible difference.

She added: “This event is for anyone who needs help and anyone who can give help. We would appreciate gently used clothes, uniforms, non-perishable foods, toiletries, and sanitary pads,” said Mbongwa.

As it is the inaugural event, Mbongwa said getting people to donate had been a challenge, but she found some kind people willing to give back.

She said the community had responded positively to the event, with children excited to receive new clothes and homemade food.

Mbongwa added, “We welcome volunteers and funds that will be used to improve our charity work. We’ve also had people come forward to volunteer for the day and other events to come.”

Mbongwa aims to make the drive an annual event and said that every December, they will be in Daggafontein, giving back to their community, getting more people involved, and making an even bigger difference.
