Far East Rand Hospital shines spotlight on staff achievements

Far East Rand Hospital rolled out the red carpet to celebrate health workers who pushed through shortages, pressures and long hours to deliver quality care.

Far East Rand Hospital hosted its annual Staff Excellence Awards on November 27 to celebrate health workers for their dedication and hard work.

The atmosphere was buzzing with excitement as attendees walked the red carpet in stunning gowns and elegant suits.

The hospital’s CEO, Sonwabo Lindani, said, “It’s been a long and gruelling year for our staff; we experienced staff shortages and patient overloads, but our philosophy is that despite the obstacles, we must always serve our patients with a smile.”

He stressed the importance of balancing staff well-being with sensitivity to patients’ needs.

“Our duty as management is to focus on the employee value proposition, which means our employees come first. We need to ensure their well-being is taken care of because one cannot pour from an empty cup, so we are filling their cups.”

“We have been monitoring complaints and compliments, and as we approach the end of the year, we have been receiving more compliments than complaints, which gives us reason to celebrate,” he said.

Lindani spoke with pride as he explained how the hospital passed all the assessments it underwent this year.
Staff were awarded in 14 different categories.

The CEO’s Special Award for top achievers had two winners, and an overall winner was also crowned. Phumla Majola received the overall winner title, while Dr Siphesihle Thwala and Nomah Mashapa won the CEO’s special award.

“Keep up the good work. We really appreciate the dedication, commitment, and service our staff provide to patients.

“This hospital does not belong to us; it belongs to the patients and the community, and we are privileged to have the opportunity to serve,” he said.
