Armed men flee after robbing New State Area shop
Two armed robbers allegedly posed as customers before robbing a shop on Hospital Road, while a third robber stood guard outside, according to Springs SAPS.
A local shop on Hospital Road in New State Area was robbed of goods and R8 000 in cash by two armed men on Saturday.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, the robbers entered the shop posing as customers and took baskets as if they were purchasing liquor.
At the time, two employees were working behind the counter.
“They proceeded to the freezer section, where one of the employees noticed that the men were armed, as the firearms were visible in their pants,” Zwane said.

The employee immediately alerted her colleague, and both exited the shop for their safety.
“Upon leaving the premises, the employees noticed a third robber outside, who was armed with a rifle. They then ran to a nearby business to seek assistance,” Zwane explained.
Zwane added that security officers later arrived at the scene and found the robbers loading liquor into a vehicle.
When they noticed the officers, they allegedly opened fire on the security vehicle, damaging all its windows. No injuries were reported.
“The robbers fled the scene in a red Mazda and a white Toyota Corolla. The value of the stolen liquor is unknown,” Zwane concluded.
