Seven security guards attacked, company vehicle hijacked in Welgedacht

The Springs SAPS is investigating a robbery and hijacking in Welgedacht, where seven security officers were held at gunpoint, robbed of their cellphones, and their company vehicle stolen.

The Springs SAPS is investigating a robbery and hijacking in Welgedacht. Seven security officers were attacked by several criminals, who stole their company vehicle on January 26.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, the security guard said he was driving the company’s Nissan NP300 bakkie with two other officers as another company bakkie had broken down at the site.

“Upon approaching the area where the broken-down bakkie was, he noticed four security guards lying on the ground.

“While still trying to assess the situation, several men emerged from nearby bushes and ordered the complainant and his colleagues to lie down and join the others,” Zwane said.

She added that the seven security guards were held at gunpoint and robbed of their cellphones.

“Thereafter, the criminals allegedly cut the cables at the site and loaded them onto the company bakkie, fleeing the scene,” Zwane said.

One officer was stabbed during the incident and taken to a medical facility.
