Read Aloud programme sparks learning and fun at Payneville Primary
Learners with special educational needs enjoyed an interactive storytelling session, while a new book club will give community members a chance to compete in the Funda Mzansi reading competition.
The Checkmate NPO and the Bakerton Library held the Read Aloud programme at the Payneville Primary School on February 12.
The initiative helps scholars with learning barriers and those requiring additional support to understand the language of learning and teaching.
During the session, Nkosana Radebe ka Galela dressed up as Donald Duck and engaged these special learners using play to facilitate learning.
“The special needs learners learn through play, which stimulates their senses. I used voice projection and my energy.
“What was gratifying was seeing them understand the story, as confirmed when I asked questions to assess comprehension after reading and acting out the story in isiZulu.”
