Springs SAPS bids emotional farewell to eight retiring officers

A heartfelt ceremony marked the retirement of eight dedicated Springs SAPS staff members whose combined 281 years of service leave a lasting legacy in the community.

Springs SAPS hosted a farewell on Friday to honour eight members set to retire after decades of dedicated service.

Collectively, the colleagues contributed a remarkable 281 years of service. The ceremony was heartfelt and bittersweet, with fellow members sharing memories and messages of appreciation.

“This is a huge loss for Springs SAPS. It’s not easy saying goodbye to colleagues who served so diligently. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

“Their commitment and dedication to serving the Springs community will always be remembered,” said Lieutenant Colonel Rajesh Ramlal.

One of the retirees, Colonel Siyakudumisa Notisi (60), began his career in law enforcement in 1988 at the age of 22. He reflected on his decades of service:

“We work in a diverse organisation, so you have to adapt to different environments. I worked the longest as a detective—30 years to be exact.

“I’m thankful to God, as it’s a challenging job dealing with criminals who resist arrest. Some of my colleagues did not make it all the way, but I’m grateful to still be alive and to now bid farewell to my colleagues.”

Notisi also shared lessons learned over his career: “Teamwork is essential. Supporting one another, even in difficult times, is part of the organisation’s culture.

“Collaboration across different backgrounds is vital, regardless of race or ethnicity. We are united by law enforcement and must embrace one another.”
