Local writer aims to raise funds for youth empowerment initiative

The initiative aims to support leadership development and amplify African voices online.

Sithembiso Nhlapo, a local freelance writer from Bakerton, is taking his vision beyond the page, launching an international fundraising campaign to build a digital platform focused on leadership development and youth empowerment in the town and across the country.

Nhlapo is raising funds of over R45 000 to secure the tools he needs to grow his work into a sustainable and impactful online presence.

He said that for him, writing is not simply about publishing articles. It is about shaping minds, strengthening communities, and contributing to conversations that matter.

“I believe words outlive us. If used correctly, they can educate a child, restore hope, inspire leadership, and shift how communities think about their future. I want my work to be part of that legacy,”cited Nhlapo.

He shared that the funds raised will help get a reliable laptop/computer system, a website domain and hosting, professional writing and publishing software, e-book development tools, and online training and professional memberships.

Nhlapo explained that without access to these resources, many emerging writers in developing communities struggle to participate fully in the global marketplace. Subscription fees, training costs, and digital infrastructure remain significant barriers.

He said his long-term vision includes publishing educational ebooks, creating leadership content for young people, partnering with schools and NGOs, and building a platform to carry positive African narratives into global discussions.

“This is bigger than me. It’s about creating something that continues to educate and empower long after today. If one young person reads my work and chooses growth, leadership, or purpose, then the investment is worth it,” added Nhlapo

He said that his journey represents more than a fundraiser; it embodies the belief that legacy is not built by resources alone but by courage, conviction, and the willingness to dream beyond one’s current reality.

Supporters, locally and internationally, are invited to contribute to or share the initiative. For more information or to support the campaign, visit www.lookingforsponsor.com
