Severed fingers in car lead to arrests

The Springs SAPS is investigating the case of three men arrested for kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of human body parts.

The Springs SAPS arrested three men for kidnapping, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of human body parts on 4th Street, Springs CBD, on Wednesday.

According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Themba Tshabalala, the Crime Prevention Unit led by Captain Mervin Kasavan stopped and searched a suspicious-looking vehicle.

“During the search, they discovered a box that contained two human fingers and a bolt cutter with blood stains on it,” said Tshabalala.

He added that the trio was interrogated but failed to provide a plausible explanation for what the SAPS found.

“Upon further investigation, the police found the person with one of their fingers cut off. However, they could not locate the second person.”

The men were detained at the Springs Police Station. Ongoing police investigations will determine if the SAPS can link the men to other crimes.

They appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on June 9.
