Man sentenced to three life sentences for raping and murdering two woman in Springs

A thorough investigation by Springs SAPS detective Sergeant Vincent Matlala led to the conviction of a man accused of rape and murder in Reedville in 2017.
Nhlanhla Sibanyoni (46) was sentenced to three life sentences after Matlala connected him to two separate cases through DNA evidence.
“In one of the cases, a 40-year-old woman was raped in Reedville on December 2, 2018, after the suspect confronted her while she was sleeping with her boyfriend.
“In another case, police responded to an unnatural death in Reedville on May 21, 2017. Upon arrival, police found the lifeless body of a 62-year-old woman lying on the ground, partially clothed,” said local police spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane.
She added that Matlala’s investigative work and the successful use of DNA evidence connected the suspect to both cases.
“The suspect was sentenced to three terms of life imprisonment, which will run concurrently,” she said.
Springs SAPS acting station commander Colonel Rajesh Ramlall welcomed the sentence and commended Matlala for his commitment and professional investigative work.
