Couple’s victorious return
André and Vallerie Sweeney recently returned from the World Championships of the Strongest man and woman competition as the second and third strongest people in the world.
The competition was held in Hungary and hosted 1 009 of the strongest men and women from across the world.
“We were very nervous and excited before we got to Hungary. The two days after we landed we competed, so we didn’t have a lot of time to settle in, but after that we got to site-see for a few days,” says Vallerie.
Vallerie placed second in her division and André placed third in his.
“The woman that beat Vallerie and the two guys that beat me were all from Australia,” says André.
The couple says knowing they are in the top three of the strongest people in the world is a great feeling.
“The competition was strong, all the people are very good and it wasn’t an easy competition,” says Vallerie.
Hansie van Heerden of van Heerden Hansie Transport says him and his brother Eddie are extremely proud of the couple. The brothers saw the potential in the couple and decided to sponsor them and will continue to support them.
“We definitely want to compete in the world champs again next year,” the couple says.
They will be competing again at the end of October at an inter-provincial competition which will be held in Durban.
