A landmark achievement

The Old Boys soccer teams recently held their year end prizegiving and there was much cause for celebration.

The team, having just completed their third season, have also completed their first season playing in the Easterns Senior Premier League.

This, being their first season participating, proved to be a very joyous occasion, as they won the League by nine points.

“At Springs Old Boys its been over 30 years since a senior football team has won a league title and we definitely are reviving in Springs,” says team member Calvin van Aarde.

Michael John scored over 25 goals this season and the team’s biggest victory was over their rival team Benoni Cedars which was an 8-0 victory.

The captain, Chad Ferguson, has been the team’s leader since the team was started in 2011.

“Our coach Mike Ferguson has also been in since we started again. He has put a lot of work into making the team a success. Our team is stoked and we are looking forward to more success next season by retaining our league title and also winning the Cup title,” says Calvin.

The prizegiving evening was a success with everyone enjoying it. The Player of the Year went to Dean Hayden, Golden Boot (most goals scored) went to Michael-John Reyneke. The Player’s player of the year was awarded to Bruce Stones while the Most Improved Player was Ricky Correira.
