Watch out, Rob’s back

Rob McNab returned to the Selection Park tennis courts on Sunday after 20 years' absence.

He was joined by Logan Stoltz against Nikola Matic and Tony Stevenson for a double’s practice game.

Rob’s friend Mick Hurst, sat on the bench watching the game, making funny comments about his friend’s return to the tennis courts after 20 years of absence.

Rob and Mick have been friends for 35 years and were double tennis partners who won the Springs Open Doubles in 1985, 1986 and 1987.

No reasons were given why Rob took a “tennis-absence” for 20 years, but he says he is back because of health reasons.

Mick says he has been threatening him about returning for years, but never got around doing so.

“But now he is the ‘come-back kid’,” says Mick jokingly, adding he is proud of his friend.

The club used to be strong in the past and coach Ian Iggleton invites all previous players, young and old, to come and play social tennis.

“They can meet old friends again,” he adds.

He says, tongue in the cheek, “Worldwide statistics showed female tennis players keep their figures the best.”

Therefore the men at the club invite females to join the club as currently there is only a 40% female membership at the club.

Practice takes place on Saturdays at 2pm, and on Sundays at 9am.

The club’s annual general meeting will take place on February 8 at 3pm, at the club.
