Clucking good fun on the bowling green
Friends and family got together to raise funds for the club and have fun.
Local bowlers, friends and family enjoyed a Chicken Fun Day at Springs Old Boys Bowling (SOB) Club on Sunday.
The unusual fund-raising initiative, which sees bowlers winning eggs and frozen chickens, started in October, last year, when club members decided to do something to raise funds to maintain the clubhouse.
Every fun day is sponsored by a different member, who supplies the prizes.
The winning team is awarded the frozen chickens, while the team in second place receives the eggs.
SOB president Mike Clarke says each team is balanced with bowlers and non-bowlers.
Family and friends, young and old, join club members to have a fun game of bowls, followed by the prize giving and a bring and braai.
All the proceeds go to the club.
Raffles are also sponsored by a member and handled by club member Helen Veal.
“The club needs funds to maintain the clubhouse, and what a good way to raise funds and to possibly gain new members,” says club member Stewart Pollak.
Mike and his team members, Lynn Seiderer and Robyn Clarke, were the winning team and each received a chicken.
In second place were Annie Turner, Michael Williams and Claire Botha, who each won six eggs.
A random draw was held and Johan Botha won a chicken, and John Birbeck won six eggs.
The next Chicken Fun Day will be held next month.
