Eager competitors at Vogel’s Dam battle it out during the Easter weekend

Great turnout for fishing competition at Vogel's Dam.

Saturday morning saw competitors gather at Vogel’s Dam to participate in a fishing competition.

The competition was organised by Bait Boyz who is a community organisation based in Daggafontein.

Young and old turned up on the day and they all competed to be crowned the best.

The weather proved to be a challenge as it started well but ended with heavy thunderstorms.

There were 74 competitors on the day and organiser Frank Jacobs was pleased with the turnout and how the day proceeded.

“It was a long day for everyone but it was a great success,” said Jacobs.

Jacobs also added that fishing is a great family sport as it allows families to spend some quality time together while learning about nature and the importance of catching and then releasing the fish safely.

The youngest angler prize went to Ryan Myburg who is nine years old.

All the competitors struggled and only six fish were caught the whole day.

These were safely released back into the water.

The Longest Day Prize went to Sakkie Smit who, despite his best efforts, failed to catch anything.

In the men’s division, the third prize went to Theo Scheepers.

The runner-up was Johan Pieterse and the winner was Ramond Jansen who won a cash prize of R2 000.

Jansen won with the catch of the day being 2.3 kg.

In the Juniors division, Tiaan Hartung won first place with a fish of 1.45kg.

The organisation will host more competitions during the year for those that want to test themselves against other anglers.

The organisation is also still accepting new members.
