Rus ’n Bietjie Old Age Home residents spoiled during the Easter weekend
Residents enjoy a day of music, good food and Easter chocolates.
The residents of Rus ‘n Bietjie Old Age Home were filled with joy as they gathered on Saturday morning to celebrate Easter together.
The event was organised by Sanet Joubert in partnership with others.
This was the first time in six years the residents of Rus ’n Bietjie Old Age Home had gathered to celebrate Easter.

The residents were also given holy communion by Pastor Shaun Ackermann, as many of them can no longer attend church.

“Jesus lives, and we are now new people through the blood of Jesus Christ,” says Ackermann during his sermon.
The event was described by Joubert as the highlight of her year, alongside December 16, where she feeds over 1 000 people.

“This year I decided to do it for the old people and I’m going to go from one old age home to the next,” says Joubert.

“I really just chose from the heart which homes to go to,” said Joubert when asked why she chose to come to Rus ’n Bietjie Old Age Home instead of Butler Park like she did in the previous years.
“They have been forgotten in life and some don’t even have parents or family members,” says Joubert.

In three months time, Joubert plans to go to the Red Cross and then another old age home in Boksburg.
Joubert was keen to emphasise that she did not do this alone.
Several local companies donated food and supplies to make the day happen and others donated their time and skills.
When not visiting old age homes, Joubert also helps various people in and around Springs and runs her own daycare.
