Fun on the green carpet at Springs Mall
The Springs Mall, as part of its birthday celebrations, hosted a carpet bowls event at the mall on Sunday.
Numerous members of the Springs Town Bowling Club were gathered at the event.
All the members were extremely helpful as they showed many curious shoppers how the game is played.
Young and old were enthralled with the game and were eager to learn how to play.

Each member of the public got a professional Springs Town bowler to show them how it is done.
Many were rewarded after playing with a voucher to learn more about the game by being coached at the Springs Town Bowling Club.
Children from as young as six years old and adults alike took a turn on the carpet green.

Dirk Coetzee from the club says the club’s aim is to attract more young people and make them aware that bowls are “not just for the old people”.
“We have many young people who enjoy playing this game and we need to get the stigma of ‘an elderly game’ out of the way,” he says.

Damien Rudolph (16) and Luan Cronje (15) started bowling three years ago and recently took part in the u-20 national championships in Bloemfontein and received a bronze medal.
