Aston Lake is not a public-owned dam

“However, if there are open spots available for people who are not part of the party that has booked, we don't turn those people away,” says Smuts.

Chris Morgenrood was dismayed to be turned away recently when he arrived at Aston Lake (Umbilo Dam) for a spot of fishing. “We were at Ashton Lake on the Saturday at 6am, but were refused entry because there were trials taking place. “I feel it is unfair that the whole dam is available for ‘trials’ only. “What about the rest of us,” asked Morgenrood.

The manager at Aston Lake, Jan Smuts, confirmed there were indeed trials taking place. “People can book the dam because it is privately owned. “However, if there are open spots available for people who are not part of the party that have booked we don’t turn those people away,” says Smuts.
