The team will be training from March 21 and March 23.

Blind Cricket South Africa’s (BCSA) national side are heading to Boksburg as part of a three-day training camp on March 21 to 23 at the Boksburg Stadium in the build-up to the Blind T20 Cricket World Cup 2021.

The national team consist of cricketers from the Western Province, KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The squad consists of players who are completely or partially blind.

As part of the training camp, the team will be playing a once-off match against Northerns Blind Cricket.

One of the aims of BCSA is to spread the game of cricket among the visually impaired in Boksburg and surrounding areas.

They encourage all visually impaired people in the Boksburg area to come and experience this exciting form of cricket and are committed to the development of blind cricket in the Boksburg area.

BCSA want to fulfil the wishes of the players who display their talents and abilities on the cricket field.

BCSA host an annual tournament called the Blind Cricket National Tournament, the last tournament was held in Pretoria from September 30 to October 3.

Due to the fact that many of the players are from disadvantaged homes or work low-income jobs, BCSA kindly asks any organisations to make a contribution of fruit, food hampers for breakfast, lunch and dinner, water, energy drinks etc, during the team’s stay in Boksburg.

According to Manny Mothilal, the treasurer of BCSA, blind cricket is the fastest growing sport for visually impaired people in South Africa.

It has grown and developed in leaps and bounds through sheer love of the sport and dedication from the players and volunteer officials.

He also appeals to the people of Boksburg to assist them in making their participation in tournaments a reality.

“Remember, it’s not your usual cricket, it’s cricket with a difference,” says Mothilal.

The Blind T20 Cricket World Cup will be held in England.
