One hundred and twelve boxers from Ekurhuleni turned up to test themselves against the best from the East Rand.
The highlight of the tournament was the Ekurhuleni 46kg Championship fight, which featured Bert Collins’ Clayton Meyer and Junior Mamba of Reiger Park.
Both boxers fought hard and at certain times the fight could have gone either way.
Speaking after winning the title, Meyer says it was a closely fought bout which he expected was going to be hard to win.
“I feel pretty tired and very good about the win.
“It was a tough match, but it was fun.
“I had never fought against him before and after the fight I thought I had a 51 per cent chance of winning.
“Later this year, I plan on going for the Gauteng title and after that if I win the Gauteng title, I’ll go for the SA title.
“I just want to get better,” says Meyer.

The Geduld-based club had three boxers taking part and two won their fights and one lost.
Stacy van Schalkwyk lost against Sheila Marlow from Young Dynamite and Michaela Minnie won on points against Anishka Devel from Brakpan.
Coach Freddie Dicks was pleased with how the tournament went and the turnout.
“I would say it went quite well, especially since there were other tournaments taking place at the same.”
Overall, it has been a good few weeks for the club; boxer Gerhard Thysse won in the Zone 4 Championships in Botswana last weekend.
The win puts the boxer on the path to qualify for the World Championships later this year.
