Springs boys bring home rugby glory
Springs Boys High School and Hoerskool Hugenote first teams became Virsekerbeker Champs in their respective categories.
Hoërskool Hugenote and Springs Boys’ High School put Springs back on the map when they won the Virseker Beker on Saturday.
Virserker Beker is said to be one of the biggest school rugby competitions in South Africa.
After a 32-year drought, Hugenote was crowned champion of the competition, beating Middelburg Hoërskool 57-34.
Their dream was at arm’s length, on August 10, when they won the semi-finals, beating Hoërskool Lichtenburg 19-17.

“It was a huge upset because they came in as the underdogs.
“No one expected them to win,” says Henlo Meyer, former CEO of Markon Group.
Markon sponsored the players’ entire kit.
Although they were confident, the team still went into the finals, Marais Viljoen High School, as underdogs.
Middelburg won the league match between the two teams earlier this year, with a comfortable 35-17.
