Wrestler Chris Jansen wins gold at East Gauteng Medal Competition

The East Gauteng Medal Competition was good practice for Chris Jansen who will compete in the South African Championships later this year.

Chris Jansen (11) won a gold medal at the East Gauteng Medal Competition in Primrose this past weekend.

The Laerskool Jan van Riebeeck learner, who wrestles for the Brakpan Wrestling Club, had eight tough matches, but that didn’t stop him from taking the gold medal.

Going into the matches, Chris was rated as the underdog, which his father, Christo Jansen, says only motivated him to work harder.

Speaking after his son’s performance, Christo says he is very proud of Chris.

“There is some training that lies ahead for Chris over the next few months as he will be preparing for South African Championships later this year,” says Christo.
