Hendrik Booysen aiming for the spot in the provincial competition
Booysen said running comes naturally to him as he’s been doing it since he was 16 years old.
Hendrik Booysen has been running for all his life and has no plans of stopping anytime soon.
The 65-year-old Booysen came third in the masters cross-race race last Saturday, held at the Chris Hani Sports Complex.
The race was part of the South African Masters Athletics League.
Booysen said although he is pleased with the result, he needs to do better to qualify for provincial championships in October.

“I ran 6km in 25:10 and in order to qualify for the championships, I need to run under 24 minutes.
“I’ve been training very hard over the past few months and I’ve got no doubt I will make it.
“Right now, I’m preparing to run in the league next week in the Westonaria,” said Booysen.

Throughout his time in school, army and later life, he kept on running and has moved up the ranks.
Booysen runs in the masters league, which is for people over the age of 60.
When he’s not running, he is coaching others who want to improve their running time, get fit and lose weight.
“I’ve kept myself fit and up to date all this time, and there’s no reason why more people can’t do it,” said Booysen.
