Springs Old Boys (SOB) u-11 first division team finished their season on a high note on Saturday when they beat Alberton 4-1 at Veritas College.
The team also won the league.
“We did not lose a single game this season. I think that this is a very special achievement. Not too many teams can brag about that,” explained Kelly Clarke, the team’s coach.
In 2019, these players won the league as u-9s.
“They are a fantastic group of children. They put in a lot of work,” he added.
Clarke said all the blood, sweat and tears put in by his assistant coaches paid off.

“There were many challenges, not only because of Covid-19. We started in April and played a few games. Then we were shut down again until August.
“It was a hectic end to the season because some weeks we had to play three games.”
The club also found themselves displaced when their facility was vandalised earlier in the year.
“A big thanks goes out to Veritas College for allowing us to use their grounds.

“It is really sad that 90% of our players come from the community surrounding the Springs Old Boys Club, yet there are people from the same community who could destroy the place,” he said.
The coach is also grateful to the club’s administration team, Shineen and Linda, who revived the season and organised the games.
The club will host an open day at the beginning of next year, and the new season will start after February.
