Springs bowlers set tone for season at first club contest

Members of the Springs Town Bowling Club braved wet conditions to compete in their first internal tournament of the year, setting the pace for upcoming league fixtures.

The Springs Town Bowling Club played their first club competition for the year on February 21 at their clubhouse. Despite the wet weather, the players showed their competitive skills on the lawn.

Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, the club’s coach, Tony Tancrell, said that the club’s intra-club competitions are important, as they set the tone for the year, as the club will be competing in various tournaments.

He also said that the players are competitive, which is a good thing, as it shows on the scoreboard and that players enjoy playing to win, which makes them better bowlers.

“These club competitions allow me as a coach to see who is good and who still needs more training, and the ones who are good, I am able to use them for leagues and trips when we play with other clubs,” said Tancrell.

Tancrell highlighted the importance of club competitions for new club members, as they show what bowls is all about and encourage them to continue with the sport.

He explained that the club plans to have more youngsters join and for organisations to use their premises for team-building sessions, thereby learning more about sport.
