Two Springs archers from local club Dynamic Archery recently made their community proud following outstanding performances for South Africa at the AGA Federation Championships in Botswana.

Schalk Burgers and Samuel van de Griendt represented the country against competitors from Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana. Archers competed for various team and individual medals across 2D and Bulls Eye categories.

Samuel and Schalk were part of the junior national team, which brought home silver medals in the Bullseye category and overall competition.

The combined South African team, comprising junior, senior and development archers, also won the African Championship trophy.

Schalk was selected for the African Federation team, which features the top 16 junior archers on the continent.

“This is the first time a Springs archer has ever achieved this prestigious honour,” Belinda van de Griendt said.

The two youngsters were also recently selected as captain and vice-captain of the Gauteng Junior A Team.

They will represent Gauteng at the Africa Genesis Archery Inter-Provincial Championships in Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape, at the end of September.

Club coach Grietjie Poolman said she was extremely proud of how her archers represented the club and the country in Botswana.

“With four of our Dynamic archers representing Gauteng at Nationals this month, as Dynamic Archery, we are definitely making our mark in South African archery,” Poolman said.
