Book: Bodyguard: Hostage Author: Chris Bradford Published by: Puffin Books Reviewed by: Natasha Kotze Rating: 8/10

I really enjoyed this book, the first in a new series by Chris Bradford, best-selling author of the Young Samurai series.

With the rise of teen stars and the dangers of being kidnapped and assassinated, there is a need for young bodyguards to protect them.

Fourteen-year-old Connor Reeves is one of these bodyguards.

Connor is recruited into the ranks of a covert bodyguard squad which trains in surveillance, anti-ambush exercises, hostage survival and unarmed combat.

His training is put to the test when he is assigned as the first daughter’s bodyguard. The impulsive teenager, Alicia, does not want to be guarded.

Although it is aimed at young readers (more specifically pre-teen and teenage boys), I couldn’t help but like this book.

It was filled with action and suspense, had a good plot and it even tickled my funny bone.

I like Bradford’s books and have been recommending them to my pre-teen nephews. It is authors like him who will keep a reading culture going.
