The long bore

Book: The Long War Authors: Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter Reviewed by: Natasha Kotze Review made possible by: Random House Struik Rating: 2/5

The Long War follows the adventures of Joshua Valiente and Lobsang in an exciting continuation of the science fiction journey begun in The Long Earth.

The event in this sequel takes place a generation after The Long Earth and humankind has spread across to the new worlds opened up in the first book.

One of the new worlds, Valhalla, is emerging and it is growing restless under the controlling arm of the Datum (Earth) government.

Joshua is summoned by Lobsang to deal with the building crisis that threatens to plunge the Long Earth into a war.

Unlike the first book, which introduced new concepts and ideas, The Long War had nothing new to offer.

As with almost all of Terry Pratchett’s latest books, I find his writing has become a bit tedious and his books long-winded.

As Pratchett has a rare type of Alzheimer’s Disease, it comes as no surprise that his books are no longer as wonderful and imaginative as they once were.

If, like me, you are a fan and want to buy the book for sentimental reasons, go ahead, otherwise don’t waste your money.
