Aimed at children between three and six years of age, How The Cheetah Got His Tears is a delightful read for parents teaching their children about friendship and the value of humility.
The book is quick to read but has beautiful illustrations by Heidi-Kate Greef which will excite young readers, especially those learning to read.
Avril van der Merwe is the author of several children’s books set in Africa which she started writing as a pre-school teacher in Cape Town.
When I saw the title I immediately assumed this was a reprinting of one of the wonderful Aesop’s Fables I was given as a child and was a little disappointed to realise that it is not.
However, within a few lines, my disappointment disappeared as this book has all the great aspects of those moral tales with the added benefit of including animals South African children are familiar with.
If your young one loves books this will make a great addition to their collection.
