Unlike our first meeting with Gnomeo and Juliet, the second movie in the franchise isn’t an all singing and dancing, love-up affair.

This one takes our heroes, who have now moved to London and take charge of their first garden as “head gnomes”, through the city’s streets in search of their friends and family who have been gnome-napped.

After a string of garden gnome disappearances in London, Gnomeo and Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case and bring their loved ones home safely.

The intrepid pair, Sherlock and his trusty sidekick Watson, must follow a series of clues through the streets and back alleys of London to find the gnomes before they are all smashed by the opening of Tower Bridge.

While following the clues, they must defeat the malicious pie mascot, Moriarty.

Finding a clue in their garden, the four go to Chinatown where they battle with a group of Maneki-nekos at Curly Fu’s Emporium.

Following the next clue, Romeo suggests looking in the Natural History Museum, and the group separated as Gnomeo and Sherlock disagree on where they should be looking.

Needless to say, Gnomeo finds his friends and is almost foiled in his attempt to rescue them but Juliet and Sherlock arrive back at the museum in the nick of time to ensure a happy, unbroken, ending.

If you’re a child, this movie will be an absolute delight, especially for the slightly naughty (yet still very innocent) sight of Mankini wiggling his naked bum as he tries to keep the other gnomes’ spirits up.

If you’re an adult, it is predictably cheesy but just as much fun as the first instalment and a great way to spend an afternoon chilling with the family.

Sherlock Gnomes is a fun caper for everyone with just enough action to keep the children entertained.

Emily Blunt and James McAvoy reprise their roles as Juliet and Gnomeo and are joined by Johnny Depp as the voice of Sherlock and Chiwetel Ejiofor in the role of Watson.
