Five suspects detained in Springs for immigration law violations

The suspects were unable to produce valid documents allowing them to stay in South Africa when requested by officers.

EMPD task team officers arrested undocumented men in the Springs area on March 7. While performing routine law enforcement duties, officers encountered the suspects and conducted a search.

“During the interaction, officers established that the individuals were foreign nationals and requested them to produce valid documentation permitting them to be in the country,” said the metro police.

The EMPD added that the suspects were unable to provide the required documentation and were immediately arrested. All five were detained at the Springs Police Station and are facing charges of contravening Section 49(1) of the Immigration Act (Act 13 of 2002).
