Strong batting and bowling secure win for Springs Old Boys Premium

Captain Rickus Neethling delivered a standout bowling performance, taking three wickets and helping defend the total.

The Springs Old Boys premier side faced the Avion Cricket Club at Hoërskool Kempton Park fields on March 15, where they secured a win by 45 runs.

SOB won the toss and chose to bat first. A solid all-round batting performance saw the team post 158 runs, with Tebogo Gaduka leading the charge with 47 runs against a strong Avion bowling attack.

Defending 158, captain Rickus Neethling led from the front with a spell of seven overs, 43 runs and three wickets.

Other standout bowling performances came from Ruben Wesson, who delivered seven overs, 25 runs and two wickets; Christi Neethling, with five overs, nine runs and two wickets; and Neill Joubert, with two overs, eight runs and two wickets.

“Behind the stumps, Dylan Samson showed great skill with the gloves, including a sharp stumping off Neill. A brilliant catch at extra cover by Sihle Mahlangu, dismissing Avion’s captain on 50 runs, proved to be a turning point in the match,” said the club.

The club shared that it has been a challenging month, after experiencing the highs and lows of the game by losing by just one run against Alberton Cricket Club. This was followed by a tough match against Bedfordview Cricket Club.

The team bounced back in style with a brilliant 10-wicket victory against Midrand Cricket Club. SOB congratulated the team for the resilience and teamwork shown throughout the month.
