GALLERY: Strubenvale Primary School fills the streets with colour at fun walk
Strubenvale Primary School hosted its much-anticipated annual fun walk on March 14, where learners, parents and teachers got active in a 5km walk.
The atmosphere was filled with excitement and colour at Strubenvale Primary School’s annual fun walk on March 14. Parents, learners and educators tackled the 5km walk in numbers, marking another successful edition of the annual event.
The school’s principal, Selby Nkosi, said the support exceeded his expectations.
“The turnout was very encouraging and truly heartwarming. We were pleased to see a large number of learners attending with their families, including parents, grandparents, siblings and members of the community.
“It created a wonderful atmosphere of unity and celebration. It was inspiring to see so many people coming together in support of the school,” he said.
He added that this year’s fun walk built positively on the success of last year’s event.
“The planning incorporated lessons learned from the previous year, which helped us improve organisation participation and the variety of activities available on the day.
“With the support of our sponsors and the commitment of staff and volunteers, this year’s event was more vibrant and engaging for everyone involved,” Nkosi said.
Nkosi detailed the process of planning an event of this magnitude, stating that the planning stage begins several weeks in advance. Planning for the Annual Fun Walk begins several weeks in advance.
The school management team, together with staff and the School Governing Body, first meet to discuss the objectives of the event.

A planning committee is then formed to coordinate different aspects such as logistics, route planning, safety measures, ticket sales, sponsorships and communication with parents and the community.
Afterwards, learners and parents are informed through newsletters and notices and partnerships with sponsors are secured.
“On the day itself, teachers and volunteers are assigned specific roles to ensure the smooth running of the programme from registration and marshalling along the route to coordinating activities on the school grounds,” Nkosi added.
He expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success.
“Together we have once again demonstrated the strength and unity of our school community,” he concluded.
