Springs dominate Boksburg with strong away wins

Coach Richard Louw praises team effort after both Springs sides impressed in away victories.

The Springs Rugby Club teams put on outstanding performances as both teams secured wins away against the Boksburg Rugby Club on March 21.

The first team dominated their game, winning 51-21, while the second team won 49-22.

This is the first win for the first team.

Speaking on behalf of the first team, coach Richard Louw told the Advertiser that as coaches, they are happy that both teams were able to win their games.

He said that good defence and attacking prowess in the first half laid a foundation. He shared that the senior players made the biggest difference in the result.

“I was impressed with the tackling, line breaks and support play. We didn’t have a game plan. The team consisted of some U21s and second-team players. We played basic rugby,” said Louw.

Despite the win, the coach highlighted that there are some areas that they need to concentrate on, especially the line-outs and scrummaging.

Louw said that the win was important because it is going to help them to build morale. He said that Boksburg teams played well despite not having enough senior players due to injuries and shared that it is something that they can work on.

Louw lauded the progress of the second team, considering how they lost against the Naka Bulls at the beginning of this month.

“We are still getting our game structure in place, and we’ll still fill up those spaces in the team that need to be corrected. But otherwise, we’re looking good for this season,” he said.

Springs will be travelling to Kempton Park this coming weekend. The second team will be playing against Benoni, and the first team will be up against Kempton.

“We will keep on working on our structures and make sure that when we hit the big teams, we are ready and we know what to do.”
