Springs Air Scouts to host Entrepreneur Day for young business minds

The event encourages creativity and teaches young scouts how to run their own stalls.

The Springs Central Air Scouts are hosting their second annual Entrepreneur Day on April 25 at the Springs Scout Hall, where young scouts will learn the skills of running a business.

Organiser Annelesia Laubscher said this year’s event has grown, with more sign-ups wanting to be part of the festivities and the entrepreneur’s badge added to the Cubs’ list of badges.

She said that the day started last year as a way to raise funds and help scouts earn their entrepreneur badges.

She explained that every child’s stall has items they made by hand, and that every year there are new ideas. Laubscher shared that kids’ creative thinking is always wonderful and exciting to see.

“They have a well-structured list of requirements that they need to complete to earn the entrepreneurs’ badge.

“The fun part is making what they sell and then selling it. But remembering that they have to know what it costs to make it and how much work goes into it,” said the organiser.

One of the new elements this year is that the event is open to homeschooled children and all other kids in the community, including scouts from other regions.

She praised each and every child taking part, as they have worked hard to be here and are very excited.

Laubscher noted the importance of the day, as it encourages children to use their creative minds to build a business and apply lessons learned to their future growth; some have taken these lessons into their school life.

She has encouraged the children to participate in future events even after they have earned the badge.

This year’s funds will go towards helping scouts attend a leadership training camp, purchasing equipment needed to compete at Kontiki in May, and assisting Rovers in building a space of their own.

Laubscher highlighted the importance of community support and how challenging it is to motivate children to keep trying.

“We do teach them to deal with this, but encourage the community to come support the youth. The
biggest way people can get involved is by stopping by on the day to see what the kids are up to,” she said.

Space is still available for stall holders. For more information, contact Laubscher on WhatsApp at 079 618 4267.
