Glencore donates medical equipment to 22 health facilities

According to the department of health the worth of the medical equipment is said to be R900 000 and it was donated to 22 health facilities and Klarinet Community Health Centre was one of them.


Mpumalanga MEC for Health Mr Gillion Mashego addressing and thanking the donation of medical equipment donated by Glencore Mine to 22 health facilities in the province.

In thanking the donation MEC Mashego said the private sector and government partnership comes a long way and will go a long way because it improves the lives of the people in the province. He further said the donation will improve not only the standard of caring but also make working of the health workers much easier.

“The operational manager of the centre Sister Thoko Mashiane and her team has greatly improved delivery as the dashboard shows. Patients’ care, medicine supply, waiting period and other aspects of the service has improved. They have successfully delivered healthy babies and community members do not have to travel long distances for that service. We want to ensure that we will deliver the best service to our people. The donation will also have an impact on the staff of the centre and build confidence in them as well.”

MEC Mashego further explained that the social partnership with Glencore will also ensure that as the department they will be able to reach the deep rural areas of the province to offer service to the people.


The officials including the Mpumalanga MEC for Health Mr Gillion posed in front of donated medical equipment by Glencore Mine to 22 health facilities in the province.

Mr Noel Pillay of Glencore said the donation from his company was one of the helping the department of health in reaching and caring for the people. He said the donation will help the staff to serve more patients in a short time and with proper diagnosis. There won’t be any more referrals to the hospitals and they will also be able to deal with emergencies.

“This is given to the people and we have seen that staff altitude is very good and that the nurses are very committed and passionate towards their work. We need to take good care of the equipment as it will save lots and lots of lives,” said Mr Pillay.
