Eskom is allegedly punishing Emalahleni for outstanding debt
During a public meeting this afternoon, residents said they had enough of ‘unfair’ load shedding.
It seems that Eskom has been ‘punishing’ Emalahleni for owing them over R7b.
Emalahleni Local Municipality’s spokesperson Mr Lebo Mofokeng said the municipality has realised that the power utility has been implementing prolonged power outages to the municipality’s main intake points, without any prior arrangements or information.
“Unofficial communication is doing the rounds that 40 municipalities around the country are being subjected to both load shedding and load reduction resulting in communities being affected for up to more than 12 hours without supply,” Mofokeng said.
The municipality has requested official communication from Eskom about the rumours that the municipality is currently being subjected to load shedding and load reduction due to historical debt.
“We are waiting for an official statement from Eskom including the submission of the load reduction schedule,” said Mofokeng.
Disheartened residents held a public meeting at an open veldt next to the N4 Office Park this afternoon.
Democratic Ward councillor, Clr Lizelle Steyn said she called the meeting to discuss what she calls ‘unfair’ load shedding.
“Doornpoort substation has been hammered with load shedding, while the rest of eMalahleni is not affected,” she said.
Doornpoort substation feeds The Ridge Casino, Highveld Mall, Die Heuwel, Highveld Park extension 5, Model Park extensions, River Crescent Centre, Seekoeiwater Plots, Ben Fleur, Duvha Park extensions, Del Judor extensions, Klipfontein, Witbank extensions 5, 8, 16 and 41 (part of ext 16 only), Bankenveld, Bankenveld Golf Estate, Tasbet Park extensions 1 and 2, Witbank Dam, Corridor Hill, N4 Business Park, Ben Fleur Boulevard, and Reyno Ridge.
Some of these areas have been without electricity for 11 hours today.
Ga-Nala is also been crippled by the load shedding schedule.
They allegedly have load shedding for four hours, then two hours, followed by another four hours.
