The Emalahleni Local Municipality has issued a public notice following a sharp increase in incidents of vandalism targeting electricity supply infrastructure. Officials warn that these acts are disrupting services and pose serious risks to public safety.

According to the municipality, the electrical department – operating under its NERSA mandate – remains committed to providing a safe, reliable and sustainable electricity supply. Teams will continue inspecting, maintaining and repairing damaged infrastructure to ensure stability.

The municipality explained that during repair work, temporary isolation of electricity supply kiosks or boxes may occur. These interruptions are precautionary measures and should last no longer than two hours. Importantly, they are not planned power outages but necessary steps to protect both workers and residents while repairs are carried out.

Residents are urged to co-operate and exercise patience during these interventions. The municipality emphasised that vandalism not only undermines service delivery but also endangers lives. Community members are encouraged to report suspicious activity or vandalism directly to the municipal call centre on 013 690 6222, 013 690 6333, or 013 690 6444, or to SAPS.

The notice also highlighted the municipality’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, urging residents to stand together against criminal acts that compromise essential services.
