2015 Relay for Life

Pull your diary closer and mark March 7 and 8 for one of the most popular Cansa events that are happening here on home soil.
Next year’s RFL is taking place in the Highveld Mall’s undercover parking area from 18:00 to 06:00.

“Celebrate, remember and fight back is exactly what Relay for Life Stands for. The CANSA Highveld Care Centre together with a very capable trained committee that has a passion to eradicate cancer in and around our community. We urge our RFL friends and new friends to start planning and registering their 2015 teams now as our 2015 registrations are open,” said Andries du Preez, RFL staff partner.
Entries close on January 31.

RFL is part of an international movement that unites cancer survivors and the communities that care about them. It offers everyone in a community, both young and old, the opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer and to honour those who have been touched by cancer. It is an opportunity for survivors and their loved ones to fight against cancer together.
It is a fun, overnight team event, which is volunteer-driven and community owned.

At Relay, teams of 10 to 15 friends, neighbours, families and co-workers commit to having at least one team member walking around the track at all times for the duration of 12 hours, because cancer neither slumbers nor sleeps.
The Relay for Life event opens with a heartfelt Survivors’ Lap, honouring cancer survivors and their caregivers.
After sun set, tribute is paid in a very emotional Luminaria Ceremony by lighting candles inside Luminaria bags which encircle the track. These Luminaria bags are dedicated to those who have lost their battle, to those who are still fighting and to those who have won their struggle against cancer. The Luminaria bags together with the candles are included in team registration fee.

Teams are encouraged to raise funds in support of the fight against cancer in the region where the relay is being held. Teams camp out overnight around the track and enjoy entertainment, fun and camaraderie in a festival-like atmosphere.
The cost per team will be R1 000 (10 to 15 team members, including ‘camp space’).
