Adios to Witbank Spurs

It was a sad day for soccer supporters of eMalahleni as Witbank Spurs, the only pride of the city were officially relegated from the National First Division (NFD).

According to information, the club was formed in 1962 as Eastern Rangers Football Club.

Witbank Spurs spent most of its life in the Mpumalanga provincial league. During the 2004-05 season, the club was promoted to the National First Division. The chairman of the club is Mr Themba Mafu.

The club played their last game against Jomo Cosmos at the Puma Rugby Stadium on Sunday, May 5 and Spurs were beaten 4-0.

The team came to the game well knowing that they are going down a lower division already as they occupied the tail end on the log.

It was evident from the onset that Cosmos were also trying to move away from the grinding relegation axe as far as possible and the three points acquired meant a lot to them.

Cosmos were the better team in the first half as they pressed hard for an early goal.

Cosmos scored their first goal via a penalty to make it 1-0 in the first half.

Cosmos scored their last goal in the dying minutes of the game to send Spurs to a lower ABC Mostepe League via the four goals.
