Mpumalanga security forces warn against election disruption
Over 1 800 voting stations have been assessed across the province as police confirm one arrest ahead of general voting.
Security forces across Mpumalanga have warned that anyone attempting to disrupt tomorrow’s local government election through violence, road blockades, or intimidation will face immediate arrest and prosecution.
The warning comes from the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (ProvJoints) after final security assessments were completed ahead of general voting on November 4.
Police revealed that one suspect has already been arrested after investigations into special voting non-compliance and alleged interference with election material.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nkakoane Aphania Modise warned that law enforcement will not tolerate any attempt to infringe on voters’ constitutional rights.
“All participating departments and stakeholders remain fully operational and committed to ensuring a safe, secure and peaceful electoral environment,” Modise said.
Hotspots monitored
Security forces have identified 1 846 voting stations across the province, classifying 1 835 as low-risk and 11 as medium-risk. No stations have been categorised as high-risk.
Officers have been strategically deployed to all polling districts, key transport routes and identified hotspots to ensure visible policing and rapid intervention.
ProvJoints urged residents to refrain from spreading misinformation on social media and to report any suspicious activity or illegal blockades to police immediately.
