De Jager tells court she slipped and hit her head

Johannes de Jager applied for bail in December when he reappeared in court, but it was refused, the principal of the case is not finished yet and it will continue through the year.

De Jager appeared in court on December 11 during his trail for the alleged murder of Charmaine Mare from Ga-Nala (Kriel) in Mpumalanga.

On Tuesday, November 26 De Jager was heard in the Western Cape High Court.
He told the court that he reported her missing on the same day that he allegedly murdered her.

A police constable from Kraaifontein Police station testified that De Jager and three others reported her missing.
During the start of his trail De Jager said he had pulled Charmaine and she had slipped and fallen, hitting her head against the bath. He hid her body in a municipal drain, but was unable to pull her out two days later until he had cut off her limbs.

De Jager has pleaded not guilty for the murder of Charmaine who was killed on January 11, 2013.
A police officer told the Western Cape High Court that De Jager pointed out the drain where he hid the torso of Charmaine.

De Jager in handcuffs and chains points out the purple bedroom where Charmaine slept, he then showed the police officer where the bathroom was.

Then De Jager led the police officer to an open plot near Kraaifontein shooting range. This is where the police officer later established that was were Charmaine’s body had been discarded previously.

After the shooting range De Jager took the police officer to a spot on the N2 highway near Macassar where he pointed out a spot on the left hand side of the road.

The police officer said; he found two objects wrapped in dog food bags, in a Mr Price bag.
Once the parcel was opened, the bags contained the legs of the deceased. These two objects were lying partially concealed in the grass next to the tree.

In the Western Cape High Court on Friday, November 29, the State advocate Romay van Rooyen called forensic pathologist, Dr Celeste de Vaal, to testify about the autopsy she conducted on Charmaine four days after she was murdered.
Charimaine went to Kraaifontein on January 3 to live with her friend and mother.

Months before Charmaine arrived in Cape Town her friend’s mother had already booked a four day cruise for herself, her daughter and De Jager’s son.

De Jager picked everyone up from the cruise on January 11. At home De Jager said he last saw Charmaine before he left for the harbour.

Charmaine scorched torso was later discovered in an open field and her limbs were missing.
