On January 7 two police officers were on patrol in the Central Business District (CBD), when they noticed two suspicious looking men on the corner of a street. Apparently the officers approached them and requested to search them. The officers apparently suspected that they might be hiding drug in their shoes.
When they took their shoes off in a nearby restroom, there was allegedly three pinches of Heroin wrapped up in a 10 rand note inside one of the suspect’s shoes. The 23-year-old suspect was arrested and appeared in court this week.
A spokesperson for the Witbank SAPS Cst David Ratau affirmed their continued fight against drugs in Emalahleni. “We are aware of the drug issues and we are going to work harder this year to reduce drug related crimes,” said Cst Ratau. He also added a warning that they will also focus on drugs in schools.
Cst Ratau added, “Whether they are an adult or a minor, a criminal charge will be laid against them.” He explains that if a minor is arrested, the procedure that the officers and the court follow, is different from when an adult is arrested. but some level of action will still be taken.
