Foreign exchange robbed of thousands

A robbery went by unnoticed at Bidvest Bank.

On February 13, at least seven suspects entered the business with the aim of striking it big.
“The whole robbery was carried out smoothly and in a very organised way,” said Highveld Mall security.

Two men entered the bank, approaching from the taxi rank area; they both had bags in their hands. A few minutes later, the third suspect entered the bank, posing as a customer. He approached from the central entrance.

Another two suspects made their way through the food court towards the business and walked in. While inside one of the robbers revealed a firearm and uttered the cliché “this is a robbery.” While another forced the teller door open, the last suspect walked in through the master currency door.

All the while, one suspect strolled through the mall, keeping his eyes on security, their movements and presence.
The robbers cleared the teller’s cash drawers of an undisclosed amount of money, however they were unable to open the main safe. But having taken their fill of the money, the robbers exited the bank through the master currency door and left without raising any suspicion.

“Fortunately there were only staff present when the robbery occurred, and no one was injured, no shots were fired either,” said Highveld Mall security.

The whole incident went unnoticed by the public, and according to security the employees of the bank kept their composure well, as soon as it was safe to do so they informed mall security of the robbery. Still photography footage of the perpetrators were taken.
