Accidents one after another
More and more accidents are occurring on the roads of eMalahleni on a daily basis. Within two weekends 119 accidents occurred.
Just this weekend alone from Friday morning, March 9 to Monday morning, March 10, 49 accidents were reported to the police station.
On Friday, March 7 at 19:15 on the N4 highway a red Volkswagen Golf rammed into the back of silver Volkswagen Polo on the highway.
The two women in the Volkswagen Polo and a child did not sustain any injuries, however.
As the driver of the red Volkswagen golf lay on the grass, a member from the provincial traffic department did a breathalyzer test on him, he sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene and later taken to hospital.
On the same evening at approximately 19:45 a mini bus that travelled down the on-ramp at Ferrobank collided with a white Volkswagen Golf.
No one that was travelling in the mini bus, sustained any injuries, nor did the driver of the white Volkswagen Golf.
Later that evening at 21:30 another accident occurred on the OR Tambo and Watermeyer intersection.
Mr Modiezi Sebati was driving a grey Cruze Chevrolet and he was travelling from Klipfontein towards the Del Judor area.
At the same time Mr Bruno Roben was travelling from Extension 16 towards Klipfontein in his white Mazda.
It is alleged that Sebati was going over the intersection as the traffic light was green for him.
Allegedly Roben failed to stop at the robot from the other direction and drove straight into Sebati.
The previous weekend from March 1 to March 3 a total of 70 accidents were reported to Witbank SAPS.
“We urge members of the public to take extreme care on the roads around eMalahleni, as the road are extremely wet and there are some severe potholes in the main roads at the moment. Reduce your speed when it rains,” said Captain Eddie Hall, spokesperson for Witbank SAPS.
