Trash lines eMalahleni sidewalks amidst municipal fleet crisis
Rubbish is piling up as inconsistent refuse removal has plagued the City of Coal over the past two months.
eMalahleni residents are facing growing frustration as uncollected refuse piles up on sidewalks.
The DA, wearing refuse bags, picketed outside the Waste Management Depot on August 19, demanding urgent action as refuse collection remains weeks behind schedule.
They have written a formal letter to Municipal Manager Sizwe Mayisela, asking why residents must pay for a non-existent service.
“The people of eMalahleni pay for municipal services and have every right to have those services delivered consistently, effectively and responsibly,” said Ward 20 councillor Maureen Scheepers.
Scheepers said information available indicates that seven refuse trucks are in the workshop for repairs and maintenance.
Witbank News sent a media enquiry to the municipality, but the municipality has yet to comment.
