5. Let me assure the public of eMalahleni and the members of staff who are committed to executing their work and follow the correct procedures to bring grievances to our attention in a constructive manner, that the events of the past few days were the turning point in the attempts to restore discipline in our service delivery teams. There is and a responsibility with each of us to honour the principles of our constitution and to show respect to our communities, authority and ourselves. I always have preferred the path of reconciliation and engagement.
This softer and accommodating approach seems not to be the answer anymore. I have no option now to do the right thing with whatever means possible within the ambit of the law. There will be consequences for what have happened and there will be for what still may be planned. This municipality has failed due to many reasons and what is happening now is again confirming one of the main causes for the poor situation we are finding ourselves in. Enough is enough now.
Water to the Clewer area has been restore. A big thanks to Ben and his teams. They are now at Duvha to resolve the problem which left parts there without water for a number of days. The broken fire hydrants also have been repaired.
Waste removal are continuing this weekend to catch up. I hope that they will cover the whole area. On Monday we will assess the situation again.
Electricity outages are being attended to. Please continue to report problems as they may occur.
