Rape closer to home

A young girl of 17 was recently raped at El Paso Squatter Camp while she was visiting her sister.

The victim alleged that the suspect has been asking her to become his partner, but the young woman refused on several occasions. The victim said that the suspect came into the bedroom where she was sleeping on one of the nights and demanded sex.

When she refused, the suspect allegedly told her that he would not give her money to go home, if she did not have intercourse with him.

The victim’s sister had allegedly not been at the house at 02:00 when the rape happened on April 6.

In a similar incident where the victim was attacked by someone she knew happened on the same day at Uthingo Park. A 30-year-old woman was apparently followed home by her attacker. The woman said she had been out with friends and she returned home around midnight. She said that she got into her house and locked all doors behind her before going to bed.

After being asleep for some time, she was allegedly woken up by a heavy weight on top of her. When she opened her eyes she saw the suspect over her and he had allegedly undressed her.

The woman said that the suspect then held her down and told her to open her legs. She said she then recognised the suspect’s voice as being that of her friend’s ex-boyfriend.

She was able to go call for help to the security guards on patrol at the complex, but when they returned to her home the suspect had fled.

He had gained access into her home by breaking a window as well as removing burglar bars. The security checked the premises and did not find anyone suspicious.
